Dear GoodWire Visitors,

After some careful consideration, on February 5th 2007 I decided to discontinue working on this website.

Since November 23rd, 2006, in my quest for good news articles I had searched through literally thousands of headlines every day to find interesting, relevant articles of a positive nature.  As the sole operator of GoodWire, the task was extremely demanding of my time.  Consequently, I spent between 6-10 hours each day looking for news and working on the website.  At the same time, I had to maintain my income level from other projects.

While this site generated a good amount of interest from people around the world (with over 100 people visiting the website each day), I found myself unable to keep up with the demands of this project working alone.  With no days off to speak of, I was beginning to see signs of repetitive-stress injuries (my hands and wrists), and also chronic soreness in my back and neck.  Also, my family life was being negatively affected – I needed to spend more time with my fiancée and daughter.

Nevertheless, this was not time wasted.  I was constantly surprised by the genuine gratitude of people who provided positive feedback and encouragement since the beginning of the project.  There is a need today more than ever for websites like this.

There are two other positive news sites that I highly recommend:

First, the GoodNewsNetwork.org, and second, the GreatNewsNetwork.org

Please also visit Kiva.org to find out what you can do right now to help “working poor” entrepreneurs in impoverished nations create sustainable businesses for themselves and their families (hint: it does not require you to donate, but rather to lend money to businesses – with a 98% repayment rate, your money is put to excellent use – and you get it back.)

While there are terrible things happening in the world today, I believe there are also countless acts of kindness, compassion and generosity that happen each day.  The way for us to change the world we live in is by first looking deeply into our own lives and working constantly to better ourselves.  In this way, we can affect those closest to us (family, friends, co-workers) in positive ways – thereby creating a ‘ripple effect’ that will inevitably in turn affect others to become kinder, gentler, more tolerant and more compassionate human beings.

As Mother Theresa said, "We can do no great things, but we can do small things with great love."

Thank you for taking the time to visit GoodWire.org

Sincerely,

Patrick Richardson
